Belize: an all around trip

I had heard of other teams going to Belize in the past. I also knew a that a medical team from Gaston, Mississippi led by Kevin & Jodi Nichols, were headed to Belize in June 2026.

Going on a mission trip doesn’t take much prayer. The preparation takes a lot of prayer and time and effort. The decision was made 2000 years ago just after Jesus died on the cross and rose again from grave.

Jesus told us, “…you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

So we’ve gone on mission trips to Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia. We’ve also gone on medical/evangelism trips to the Dominican Republic. Now we head straight south…south to Belize.

What did we find in Belize? The same thing we found in all those other countries we had been to before. People who need Jesus and medical help. People that can’t afford American doctors and medicine. People who are looking for that way to heaven and haven’t found it…yet.

Others have found Jesus but are not sure of their salvation. How did I figure this out? I didn’t, Patti did.

She was using the “baby Jesus” to talk to people about going to heaven. She would give them a “baby Jesus” and ask them questions about their faith. She taught those ole preacher something in the mission field: not all people are lost. Some just need assurance of their salvation!

That started me down a whole different path. Lead some to Christ using the Roman Road to salvation and use selected verses from the Bible about assurance of salvation.

That led to many baptisms on two of the three days we were in clinics. Wow!!!

The camaraderie from this team was different than any team I had been on previously. We truly functioned as a team. We would pivot if and when we had to. I attribute the leadership by the power of the Holy Spirit for being this fluid and flexible. We bent every day but never came close to breaking. Thank you Lord!

Each day brought new challenges that we met head on and conquered, giving all the praise and honor and glory to God!

Missions is about relationships just like we have to have a relationship with our Lord and Savior. It starts wth love. This team truly loved the people in and around Copper Bay.

I remember every team I’ve led or been apart of and this one was special. Maybe it was because that in May 2024 I had open heart surgery to fix the LAD (widow maker) in my heart. I’m not sure but the Lord saw fit to place me there in Belize for such a time as this.

I believe the Lord wants to do much, much more in and around Copper Bay. So stay tuned. We are starting to try and get sponsorship for at least one orphan and some widow ladies.
